Every year, The Greater Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce works to identify Shining Stars in the North Broward area. Residents, businesses and organizations are recognized for outstanding good work, civic and/or volunteer activity or major contributions to the community.
This year the Shining Star Committee is asking the public to get involved in the process.
"We know there are many people in our area working for positive change. We want the community to let us know who they feel should receive a Shining Star Award from the Greater Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce," said Leila Moavero, event chair and owner of Executive Printing & Mailing. "Our committee looks forward to reviewing the nominations as there are so many amazing people living and working in Northeast Broward!"
Honorees in recent years have included Frank Furman, Lighthouse Point Mayor Fred Schorr, BSO Captain Wayne Adkins, Ann Brummer, Richard Leys, Marjorie Evans, Pompano Beach Mayor Lamar Fisher, State Representative Gwendolyn Clarke-Reed, and Bill Jaycox, Pompano's very own minstrel who loves singing about his favorite city.
To nominate a local Shining Star, send their story to info@pompanobeachchamber.com. Be sure to include the name of your Shining Star Nominee with their contact information and a few paragraphs why you think they should be honored at this year's luncheon. Also include your name and contact information in case there are any questions and so you can be informed if your nominee is selected.
This year's Shining Star luncheon will be held on Friday, September 19th at the Marriott Pompano Beach Resort and Spa on North Ocean Blvd. Tickets for the luncheon will be $45 and reservations can be made by calling 954-941-2940 or go online to the Greater Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce's website to purchase tickets. This event has been sold out for the last few years, so be sure to call early.
"All of our past recipients have contributed so much and are what make our area so special. With the help of the community, I am sure this year's will uncover some real jewels," said Chamber President Ric Green.
