FORT LAUDERDALE – The Grammy Award-winning rock group includes Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin and Jeff Schroeder. In addition to the band’s hits, the tour has featured incredible covers that have included Hole’s “Malibu,” The Rolling Stones’ “Angie” and David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.”
Of a recent concert, the Toronto Sun reported, “Armed with an acoustic guitar and a smile on his face, Corgan deftly maneuvered through stripped down versions of classic Smashing Pumpkins material, solo work as well as a fistful of rather odd covers. The biggest issue of the night for fans was whether to stay seated or stand up.”
Singer-songwriter Liz Phair will open the show on her first full tour of the U.S. in six years. Billboard magazine wrote of one of the New York City concerts on the tour, “While her voice sounds exactly the same as it did on recordings done 20 years ago, she's toyed around with the guitar arrangement on a few of the songs in the years since, either to suit her solo guitar format for the night or simply to mix things up. The acoustic setup surprisingly suited her fuzz-free version of "Supernova," and Liz Phair singles "Extraordinary" and "Why Can't I?" sounded sturdier than you'd expect without the studio polish of that 2003 self-titled album.”
