Fort Lauderdale, FL – Terrific Trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis was born in ‘the birthplace of jazz,’ New Orleans. This son of Ellis Louis Marsalis, Jr., a pianist and music professor and brother of Wynton Marsalis (trumpeter); Branford Marsalis (saxophonist); and Jason Marsalis (drummer) offers talent and legacy when he brings his sultry sounds to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on February 8. He is a soul on the trombone, virtuous with giving back, and fun on the stage!  Don’t miss him!  

This particular Marsalis is accredited as the “most fun of the Marsalises" by the Buffalo News, heralding a dynamite evening with exceptional music in classical sound. Back by popular demand will be an "An Evening with the Delfeayo Marsalis Quintet."

Says the musician, “I remember my dad playing piano at the house, and me laying underneath the piano as a child, listening to him. After briefly trying bass and drums, in sixth grade, I gravitated towards the trombone, which was an extension of my personality.”

Marsalis attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts high school, and was classically trained at the Eastern Music Festival and Tanglewood Institute, and majored in both performance and audio production at the Berklee College of Music.

From the age of 17 until the present, Marsalis has produced more than 100 recordings for major artists including Harry Connick, Jr, Marcus Roberts, Spike Lee, Terence Blanchard, Marcus Roberts, Adam Makowicz, Nicholas Payton, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the projects of Ellis, Branford and Wynton Marsalis.

We are ready for this “Merchant of Joy” as labeled by Downbeat Magazine because Marsalis is a jazz impresario that has kept company with legends, Ray Charles, Art Blakely, Max Roach, Elvin Jones and Slide Hampton. He also leads his own group of Legends as the acclaimed trombonist, composer and producer, and has dedicated his prolific career to music theatre and education.
