productphoto: diamondsanddoggies.comFeeling a need to give your pooch pearls? Or a diamond collar to your cat?

Pet bling is in. There’s cubic zirconia and simulated emeralds and rubies for the price conscious, Swarovski crystals and pearls for a touch of class, and, if price is no object, custom-made diamond necklaces with as many carats as you’d like. There are even “doggie and you” matching sets made of real diamonds that can hit six figures.

Diamond-crusted heart pendants. Cultured freshwater pearls. Anklets, pendants, bracelets and necklaces. You name it. There are designs to match every taste, and every price range. Glittering strands of simulated colored or clear jewels can be had for under $50. Solid white or yellow gold engraved tags climb into the low to mid hundreds. And pet jewelry as distinctive as pieces their two-footed companions would wear go up from there.

“Most people who have dogs and don’t have children treat their dogs like kids, like family – and sometimes more than that,” said Dom Casale, of Diamonds and Doggies in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. “We sell anything from $39 necklaces to $39,000 necklaces.”

People buy pet jewelry for their furry friends of all sizes, he said. “I got a couple of Rottweilers that we put 20-inch necklaces on to make them look feminine. But no matter what you do, it’s hard to make that dog look feminine.”
