FORT LAUDERDALE - The monthly meeting of the Florida Master Naturalists of Broward County and the Eco-Movie group hosted by them will meet on Tuesday, April 24, at the Broward County Extension Auditorium, 3245 College Ave., Davie, FL 33314-7719. The Master Naturalists’ meeting, open to the public, is at 6 p.m., followed by the free movie Fuel, to be shown at 6:30 p.m.The Master Naturalists meet the fourth Tuesday evening of every month and host Eco-Movies in collaboration with University of Florida-Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF-IFAS) Extension, Tanawhá Presents, the South Florida Audubon Society, and the Sawgrass Nature Center. Please note that the Extension office is located south of Nova Drive but north of 30th Street, on the western side of College Avenue.
 
The Master Naturalists are volunteers and natural resource management professionals who have been trained and certified by the UF-IFAS/Broward County Parks and Recreation Division’s Extension Education Section training program, consisting of three core modules – Coastal Systems, Upland Habitats, and Freshwater Wetlands – along with four specialized courses that include Environmental Interpretation, Habitat Evaluation, Wildlife Monitoring, and Conservation Science. The program is a collaboration between Tanawhá Presents and BC Extension, and so far, 55 course projects have assisted in habitat restoration, natural history interpretation, reintroduction of threatened species, guides to flora and fauna downloadable to smart phones, and Web-based interactive materials. These materials have been used by staff and patrons among myriad parks, natural areas, and nature centers, as well as local, county, and state parks. Volunteers and professionals graduating from the course receive national and state certification as part of the UF-IFAS Master Naturalist Program.
 
This month’s presentation, Fuel (thefuelfilm.com)  is the in-depth personal journey of filmmaker and eco-evangelist Josh Tickell, who takes us on a history lesson of the U.S. auto and petroleum industries and interviews a wide range of policy makers, educators, and activists such as Woody Harrelson, Sheryl Crow, Neil Young, and Willie Nelson. Animated by powerful graphics, Fuel looks into our sustainable future, offering hope via a wide range of renewable energy and bio-fuels. Fuel is a winner of the Sundance Audience Award.
