While many students are enjoying a leisurely Saturday at the beach or the mall, four top students who attend Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) will be demonstrating their knowledge of chemistry.
The four students are among a group of 10 selected from Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade public schools to take a national chemistry exam administered by the American Chemical Society. The remaining six students are from Palm Beach and Miami-Dade county schools. The students will take the exam on April 21 at Nova Southeastern University’s Fort Lauderdale campus.
The ten students were the top scorers on the National Chemistry Olympiad Qualifier Exam that was administered to 198 chemistry students from the three counties by the South Florida Section of the American Chemical Society and Nova Southeastern University. Students selected to take the qualifier have taken advanced courses since 9th grade with an ‘A’ average in sciences, including an ‘A’ in advanced chemistry.
Those students who receive the top scores on the national exam will be eligible for college scholarships. Listed below are the four students taking the national exam, their schools and their chemistry teachers:

Pratheek Nagraj, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Teresita Chipi, teacher
Grant Falkenburg, Cooper City High School, Herb Slusher, teacher
