FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, Thursday, March 8, 2012 – On Wednesday, February 29th, 200 guests came together at the Signature Grand for morning of giving, raising $60,000 to help Women In Distress provide critical services to women, men and children affected by domestic violence.
Guests in attendance were welcomed by President and CEO of Women In Distress, Mary Riedel and Board Chair of Women In Distress Board of Directors and VP of AutoNation, Inc., Audrey Ring.
“The Annual Giving Breakfast Presented by FPL is a unique opportunity for Women In Distress to share its mission with new and old supporters. The event helps the agency build new relationships, while giving a face to domestic violence. The breakfast helps us bring to light the day to day obstacles faced by both men and women, dealing with domestic violence, said Mary Riedel, President and CEO of Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc.
This year the event began with the premiere of a lip dub video, depicting the new Jim and Jan Moran Family Center, as well as community supporters and staff. The video was a great way to reiterate the theme for that morning, “All You Need Is Love.”
Those in attendance truly felt the impact of their support when participants receiving services at Women In Distress shared their stories of triumph, one by one, with the audience.
“It’s uplifting to see firsthand the positive changes that can happen when you invest in your community,” said Deborah Caplan, FPL Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. “It takes strong partnerships between community organizations and businesses to make an impact against domestic violence. FPL is proud to stand alongside supporters of this very worthy cause.”
Concluding the program, a friend of the agency and supporter of Women In Distress, Dr. Lanalee Araba Sam of Elite Obstetrics and Genecology, shared her why she supports Women In Distress and invited those in attendance to make a commitment to keeping families safe.
