Fort Lauderdale – The City of Fort Lauderdale will host the grand opening of Stranahan Landing on Saturday, February 25 at 11:30 a.m. The park is located at 500 S. New River Drive East in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The grand opening program will include remarks from elected officials, City staff, and area residents. The ceremony will conclude with a sign unveiling, photo opportunities and refreshments.
Situated on the south side of the New River adjacent to Fort Lauderdale’s Rio Vista neighborhood, Stranahan Landing provides visitors with a quaint setting and picturesque views of Fort Lauderdale’s historic Stranahan House. The park’s historical name was derived from the ferry service that Frank Stranahan operated, which allowed travelers to cross the New River. Since the Stranahan House is located on the north side of the New River, the south side was often referred to as Stranahan Landing since this was the drop-off location for passengers.
Stranahan Landing enhances the east end of the Riverwalk, downtown Fort Lauderdale’s linear park that features scenic walkways through lush tropical landscaping and links patrons to local businesses, shops and restaurants. Amenities at Stranahan Landing include native landscaping, decorative lighting, park benches, a bicycle rack, trash receptacles and a sitting wall along the historic New River.
