FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- The Humane Society of Broward County is saddened by the loss of Tweety, the infamous black furred feline who lived at the shelter for the past 19 years. This sassy beauty came to the shelter as part of the Women in Distress program. The HSBC agreed to keep Tweety for a month so her owner could be housed safely and restart her life, but her owner was never able to come back, so the shelter adopted the long-haired beauty.
Tweety had a wonderful life while residing at the Humane Society with all the staff and volunteers. She attended more meetings, educational presentations, birthday parties and camps than any other pet, and only wished that shrimp was served at all events. Tweety was very wise and for the past 13 years provided her perspective on pet issues in the shelter's quarterly newsletter. She also responded to numerous questions from pet owners to help them have the best possible relationship with their pet. Tweety was also the founder of the "Black Velvet Club" which promoted the adoption of black furred pets, often the most overlooked at shelters.
Tweety crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Sunday, October 26. An x-ray revealed a large mass in her chest/abdomen area which was causing her discomfort and breathing difficulties. Tweety was 20 years old and will be missed by all.
Donations in Tweety's memory can be made by visiting www.humanebroward.com , mailed to the shelter at Humane Society of Broward County, 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312 or by calling 954-989-3977 ext. 6835.
