FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – The Humane Society of Broward County is pleased to announce a special delivery service this year in conjunction with Santa Claus. Those who adopt December 18th – December 23rd will have the option of having Santa and one of his helpers deliver your newly adopted pet on Christmas eve. The adoption process is the same and those wishing to have Santa come to your home are encouraged to come in and select their new family members early and make arrangements with the shelter for this unique opportunity. There is a $100 fee for the delivery.

"There is nothing better than seeing a homeless pet find their forever family, especially during the holidays," said Cherie Wachter, of the Humane Society of Broward County. "We are excited to work with Santa and help spread some joy this holiday season."

The Humane Society of Broward County is open Monday – Saturday 10:30 – 6:30 and Sunday 10:30 – 5:30 and is located at 2070 Griffin Road, just one block west of I-95. The shelter will be closed on December 24th and 25th.

Before adding a furry friend to your family, make sure you have time to commit to a pet and remember, pets are not just for the holidays, they are for life. In 2013, the ASPCA surveyed people who had received their pets as gifts in order to learn more about their attachment to – and the retention of – that pet. They also explored the difference in those factors for those that obtained their gifted pet as a surprise. Their research found there is no correlation between getting an animal as a gift and an owner's love and attachment to the pet – even if that pet was a surprise gift – and no increased risk of relinquishment for dogs and cats received as gifts.​

The Humane Society of Broward County is a private, non-profit organization supported by donations from companies and people who want to make a difference in the lives of homeless animals.
