Broward Schools LogoSheridan Park Elementary School's FIRST LEGO League (FLL) program competed in its sixth year of participation in 2011-2012. After earning awards at the local and regional levels, they will compete at the state championship for the first time.

The school's two robotics teams, the "Frost Giants" and the "Strawberry Nerds," won trophies for "First Place Robot Game," "Second Place Overall Championship" and "First Place Project." Both Sheridan Park Elementary teams advanced to the regional competition for the third consecutive year. There they were awarded a plaque for "Against All Odds" and one team was sent to the state championship in Melbourne.

The teams also attended the inaugural STEM TECH Olympiad at the Miami Beach Convention Center where they were awarded trophies for "Teamwork," "Mechanical Design," and "First Place Overall Championship."

The Sheridan Park Elementary FLL program serves nearly 35 students from grades 3 – 5. FIRST LEGO League introduces students to real-world engineering by building and programming LEGO-based robots to solve a "challenge" each year on a game board. This year's challenge was "Food Factor," where students researched and developed an innovative solution to food safety. Students must adhere to Core Values that stress teamwork, self-discovery, having fun and gracious professionalism. The FLL program at Sheridan Park Elementary is sponsored by the school's PTA.
