Broward-County-Public-SchoolsThe School Board of Broward County, Florida, at its regular School Board meeting tomorrow, May 15, 2012, will give special recognition and extend congratulations to:

• South Broward High School senior Christina Monroe, who is closing in on a perfect school attendance streak dating back to kindergarten. The School Board will recognize Christina with its Best in Class Attendance Award for showing-up every single day from kindergarten to 12th grade.  Among the rewards and honors Christina will receive for her achievement is an annual $1,000 scholarship from the Broward Education Foundation. Christina has maintained a 4.0+ grade point average and plans to attend the University of Central Florida. Other rewards include gift cards from Publix, BrightStar Credit Union and Timpano Italian Chophouse restaurant; gifts and an autographed football from the Miami Dolphins; a personalized jersey and game tickets from the Miami Marlins and a personal visit by the Miami HEAT’s mascot Bernie to present gifts. A congratulatory letter by City of Hollywood Mayor Peter Bober and Hollywood City Commissioners will be read and presented during the School Board’s special recognition.

Additionally, the School Board will:
• Introduce new School Board Student Advisors Maria Brown, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and Blaire Hirt, Piper High School, who will serve their peer students as representatives during the 2012/13 school year. Special recognition will also be noted for current and outgoing School Board Student Advisors Spencer Shwike, Cooper City High School and Laura Munoz, Flanagan High School;

• Congratulate Flanagan High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) for its first place win at the National Academic, Athletic and Drill championships at the Pensacola Naval Air Station (NAS) in Pensacola, Florida and the Flanagan High World Guard for claiming its second World Championship title and•     Congratulate the BECON-TV Broward Teen News (BTN) produced series for recently received Emmy Awards. BECON’s BTN is in its 22nd year and has served the District’s middle and high school broadcast journalism students at many Broward County schools. This is the sixth year that BTN students have been recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts and Science for their excellence in broadcast journalism. Students who have won Student Emmy Awards will be recognized and congratulated.
