FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Rebuilding Together Broward County is in critical need of the community’s help to provide six local military veterans and their families with new roofs for their homes this holiday season.  The non-profit organization, which brings volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of veterans, elderly, disabled and low income homeowners, is currently seeking charitable donations and roofing supplies to replace roofs of seven local veterans’ homes that are in dire need of repairs.  The veterans, who range in age from 31 to 68, served in either the U.S. Air Force or U.S. Army, with five of the six suffering from either physical or mental disabilities.

The replacement cost of each roof is between $15,000 - $20,000 based on the roofing and subsequent structural work that will need to be performed in order to make sure these homes are safe for the veterans and their family members. Over the past 10 years, Rebuilding Together Broward County has built strong relationships with several local construction businesses and building supply companies, giving them the ability to leverage donations and complete home repair work at a discounted price.

All donations will help. Below is a breakdown of what specific financial contributions to Rebuilding Together Broward can provide:

·         A $500 donation will provide the wood needed to replace rotted trusses that are threatening the structure of one the homes.

·         A $1,000 donation will help to provide shingles that will protect a new roof for many years to come. 

·         A $5,000 donation will help Rebuilding Together Broward purchase all of the materials that would be needed to complete one of these roofs before Christmas. 

·         $10,000 donation will help complete an entire roof for one of these veterans in need.

“It has always been our goal to prioritize services for our veterans, but the overwhelming need for roofing replacementsare out of our financial reach at this time,” said Sandra Veszi Einhorn, Executive Director of Rebuilding Together Broward.  “We are really hoping that the community will help us attain our goals of providing new roofs for these six deserving families by Christmastime.”

During the past two years, Rebuilding Together Broward hasexpanded its Veteran Housing Initiative and has increased its support for veterans and their families by more than 50%. In response to its outreach and efforts, Rebuilding Together Broward has been inundated with requests from veterans, specifically those who are also elderly and/or disabled.  As a result, for the first time in its history, the organization has a waiting list for roofing services needed by veteran homeowners.
