FORT LAUDERDALE, Fl – ChildNet Circle of Supporters, an exclusive annual giving society, recently gathered for a cocktail reception at Grille 401 Las Olas. The event celebrated the generous contributions of members and highlighted the need for more loving, caring families in Broward County to open their hearts and homes to children in foster care.
“I want to thank each and every one of our Circle of Supporters members – the everyday heroes, champions, visionaries, advocates and partners who allow us to help make a difference in the lives of our community’s most vulnerable children,” said Jeff Dwyer, ChildNet Board Chair. “We need the support of the community to pay for things that children in foster care need and want to enjoy their childhood. Contributions to the Circle of Supporter pay for things like going on a school field trip or a uniform to join the band. The simple things that make childhood memorable. ”
During the reception, Circle of Supporters enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while networking with new and existing members. Each member was presented with a wallet-size photo of a child who is available for adoption and was asked to carry that photo to let others know about the need for foster and adoptive parents in the local community.
Speeches were delivered by ChildNet board members, as well as Vanessa Civil, a Blanche Ely High School senior in foster care, who recently was rewarded with a $5,000 college scholarship. Civil, who has been in foster care since age three, expressed her appreciation for those supporters who provided guidance each step of the way, helping her to achieve her educational goals.
“I’m so grateful for everyone at ChildNet who, over the years, has offered their time and support to those of us who grew up in foster care, for they have instilled in me a sense of belief,” said Civil. “I believe that strong determination to succeed comes from my desire to be a role model for my peers and have learned that to accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe. ”
As the single private non-profit entity responsible for administration of the local child welfare system, ChildNet brings years of dedication to protecting abused, abandoned and neglected children in the communities it serves.
