Students at Oriole Elementary School in Lauderdale Lakes and Sanders Park Elementary School in Pompano Beach will receive a special visit tomorrow (Tuesday, February 7), when a stock car from Daytona International Speedway stops by their school. Accompanying the racing machine will be representatives from Just Read, Florida! and Daytona International Speedway, stressing the importance of reading to students and showing off the “Take the Lead and Read” racecar, which celebrates a statewide  literacy campaign.

On Tuesday, February 7, Oriole Elementary students will have an opportunity to take an up close look at the “Take the Lead and Read” racecar and receive books from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m., and Sanders Park Elementary students will view the racecar and receive books from 10:30 to 11 a.m.

Through a partnership with Daytona International Speedway, the Florida Lottery and other educational partners, the Just Read, Florida! office has hosted reading events across the state including school visits with the “Take the Lead and Read” racecar reaching more than 10,000 students in 12 school districts.  The “Take the Lead and Read” racecar will continue to tour the state through the first week in March 2012, encouraging students to read. The stock car is expected to take a pre-race lap at the Daytona 500 on February 26.
