Broward County Public Schools, in partnership with Renzulli Learning and College Board, will host the South Florida Gifted and Advanced Learner Symposium on Thursday, February 9 from noon to 5 p.m. at Piper High School, 8000 NW 44th Street, Sunrise.

        The Symposium, open to teachers and parents, will focus on strategies and practices critical to positive parenting and teaching of gifted and high-achieving learners. The event will provide an opportunity for educators and parents alike to learn in a forum dedicated to strategies and practices that foster self-directed, motivated and independent learners in real-world environments with "no ceilings."

        Experts from South Florida and across the country will share successful ideas and activities, including nationally renowned educators Dr. Sally Reis and Dr. Joseph Renault from the University of Connecticut, who will also provide a joint keynote address, “The Five Dimensions of Differentiated Learning.”

        In addition to breakout sessions on enrichment clusters and challenging talented readers, attendees will benefit from a variety of sessions and presentations on topics including:

•     Fostering Resilient Children•     College Readiness
•     Underachieving Gifted Students•     Substantive (not superficial) Learning•     Dealing with Perfectionism
•     Socratic Methods•     Exciting Content Area Topics (e.g., Escher Tessellations)•     Innovative Instructional Technology and Learning Resources
        A wide variety of vendors, schools, and organizations, dedicated to meeting the needs of gifted and advanced learners, will have informational booths with resources dedicated to nurturing, challenging and motivating students.
